… violets are blue, there was love in the air, did you feel it too? Another year, another Valentine’s Day gone by. Love it or hate it, there is something rather special in the giving or receiving of a little token of affection that makes even the most cynical of us feel pretty good inside, whether we want to admit it or not. Because hey, in this unforgiving world we now live in, everyone could do with more loving right?
But as I’ve probably mentioned before, Poss and I aren’t big into the whole “one day of love” madness, so there’s usually no wildly expensive flowers and candlelit dinner or poems professing our undying devotion to one another. If anything, we might just incorporate the occasion into one of our regular date nights, because we’re practical like that. Plus, there’s still 364 days of the year where we can get soppy for much cheaper.
This Valentine’s Day was therefore no different. I got my usual goodbye morning kiss and off he went to work – no presents or anything special planned. The only thing I had for the day was a date with my Doc for my routine bi-monthly check-up which didn’t go quite as well as I would have liked. And then to top it off, I had to get a jab in my bum, so needless to say, I was feeling a little blue – so much for a day of love!
Then lo and behold, my Poss comes home from work carrying something in his hands. I couldn’t tell what he was holding at first. All I could make out was a white box with a red top and was thinking to myself that I really need to stop being in denial and actually start wearing my glasses. But as he came closer and I could finally see that it was in fact a bunch of roses, my heart literally smiled … aww. Who said romance after marriage is dead? Oh wait .. I think that might have been me. In this instance, I’m happy to say that I stand corrected.
It’s nice to know that your hubby can still surprise you with some unexpected love and romance. After the morning I had, he managed to turn my frown upside down – jeez, I think this Valentine thing might be rubbing off on me.
So here’s hoping everyone else felt a little love too, wherever it may have come from. And to my Poss, thank you for making my day – you truly are my forever Valentine 😍
