chapter one

I just came across a rather interesting observation on Twitter about how January 2018 feels like it’s been the longest month ever!  Is there something everyone is itching to get to in February that I don’t know about, because I feel like January just flew by. Granted, I have kinda been on extended holiday mode and then been battling the flu again, but it’s like I blinked and didn’t see January at all. Is it just me?

Perhaps it seems quick because January is one of my favourite months in Dubai, so I wouldn’t mind it hanging around a bit longer. Right now it’s a lovely 21ºC with bright blue skies and tonight we’re expecting a low of 16ºC. It’s perfect weather to explore Dubai in all its outdoor splendour. From the Old Quarter to the Global Village or the Desert Dunes to the Miracle Garden, there’s plenty to see while stocking up on some much needed Vitamin D to get us Residents through the next Dubai summer when we turn back into vampires.

That’s not to say I’m actually out exploring all the time, because like many people here, I don’t technically do much sightseeing until visitors come over. Sounds silly I know, but once you’ve been up the Burj Khalifa more times than you can count, you’ll understand the need to stretch out your to-see list – sometimes, too much of a good thing is really too much.

Instead, you’re more likely to find us catching some rays at the beach or having long terrace brunches and laid back sundowners at our favourite beachside or rooftop lounge, soaking in some of Dubai’s best views. And then there’s always the Dubai Shopping Festival of course – because even though you’ve probably fully depleted your bank account over the holidays, when else can you afford to refresh your wardrobe. If only you could figure out how to create more space on your credit card.

So seeing as I’ve been traveling or been in bed recovering the whole of January, I haven’t done any of the above which is why I’m looking forward to what Dubai brings in Chapter 2 of 2018. Ah February – the month of love, not that Cupid makes much of a difference to Poss and I. But we are going on our first date night of the year tomorrow, albeit with me still coughing and spluttering all over him but hey, sharing is caring, so at least it’s a start 🙂
