Day 527 • Thursday • 14 Jan 16 • Today’s High 23º
Is it too far into January to still say Happy New Year? Let’s just say Happy Newish Year then!
As Poss and I celebrated New Year at home last year, this time we thought we’d experience Dubai’s spectacular display – a domino effect of fireworks that were going to light up the night sky across multiple locations. And although it would be physically impossible to follow this fireworks trail, even with a jet pack strapped to your back, there’s still nothing quite like seeing it “live”, so one location would have to do.
Fortunately for us, we were ushering in the New Year at Heidi & Rock’s place downtown which overlooks the Burj Khalifa – friends, comfort, bubbles & a fantastic view; what more could a Diva ask for. The only problem of course was getting there! Because as you can imagine, New Year’s Eve in Dubai is madness and then some, just like everywhere else in the world! Traffic jams, people everywhere and that was just in the afternoon. We had to do multiple bog laps around their apartment block just to find a park, almost giving up at one point because it seemed impossible. But then we started to ‘think happy thoughts’ which is a silly little thing Poss & I do in certain situations (like when we can’t find a park), and lo & behold a spot opened up. Works almost every time – honest!
Thankfully, we were already at Heidi & Rock’s place when the fire at The Address Hotel broke out. Glad to hear everyone made it out because all we could see was thick smoke billowing across the Burj Khalifa. And while we thought that the fireworks might be cancelled on account that it may not be such a great idea to be setting off a thousand fireworks across from a burning building, ‘the show must go on’ and so it did – albeit a little scaled back.
Now here we are, 3 weeks into the New Year, back to reality – yes, even Tai Tai’s have a daily grind 😉 So far I’ve hit the gym once and hit the pool once. Hey, that’s way better than this time last year! More importantly, I’m actually making a blog entry – let’s just hope I can keep it up. Who knew it required so much discipline! Something I obviously don’t have, judging by my previous performance. Don’t be surprised if throwback stories suddenly pop up as well. I’m really the only who understands the chaos of my chronology, so no point trying to make sense of it – just sit back, relax and enjoy the read.
