furniture is WAY more expensive than lunch!

Day 2 • Thursday • 7 August 14 • Today’s High 40ºC

Woke up at the crack of dawn again today. Seriously, this has got to stop – soon! How’s a Diva to get her beauty rest?

On the yay side, we got our first piece of furniture yesterday. I hafta say that it might possibly be the loveliest air mattress my bottom has ever seen – beats sitting on the kitchen counter I can tell ya! We actually got it for one of Poss’ best mates who’s been a resident of Dubai for a number of years and is coming over for the weekend to help with all this furniture search madness.

The funny thing is, even though Poss & I have been married for almost 10 years, this flat is literally the first time we’ve lived on our own. Sounds strange I know but we’ve just always ended up living with family, most recently my Mum & Dad (where our cat Max is keeping our bed warm). It’s also the first time we’ve ever needed to fully furnish a living space – together! While the prospect of it is truly quite exciting, we’re complete polar opposites, not only in the way we shop but in what we like, so you can imagine how our furniture recce went yesterday (It even took us a while to agree on the air mattress lol! I laugh now but it wasn’t so funny then).

Thankfully, someone must have been looking down on us as we went from shop to shop to shop, coz when it came down to choosing key pieces, we actually managed to do it without totally killing each other. Although, the sheer price of everything may have helped a little too. Dubai is sooo expensive! I know people say that but until you’re adding up totals and realise that you’re gonna hafta give up food for the next month, you really don’t know. All Poss heard every time I looked at a price tag was “MOVE ON”. And while his shopping MO is normally see, like, buy, leave – what price tag?, I think even he saw the merit in shopping around and not spending a fortune on stuff we might have to get rid of in a few years. That’s not to say we slummed it either, I’m still a Diva after all and like to be surrounded by nice things but somehow or other, we found pieces we both loved without breaking into the holiday fund (like I’m ever gonna let that happen!). So you see, someone must have been watching over us.

Alas not for long sadly coz we ended the day buying a … wait for it … vacuum cleaner. Sigh! I guess that means the Welcome to Dubai honeymoon is over.
