Day 1 • Wednesday • 6 August 14 • Today’s High 41ºC
Woke up at the crack of dawn and while in my normal life, that would mean 10am, I literally mean like 6am. It was even early enough to see Poss off to work which is a first in itself! It also doesn’t help that we have no curtains yet and boy, does our room get bright or what! No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t go back to sleep, so I reluctantly kicked back the covers, got up and saw our spectacular view. No denying it now, I’m in Dubai!
I hafta give my Poss a big pat on the back for finding this flat. I gave him a list of criteria along with a few scenarios of what would happen if he didn’t meet them and he pretty much outdid himself. Not only did he almost stick to the budget (a word that is not in his vocabulary) but he gave me this bonus view. Gotta love him for how hard he’s trying to make me happy, either that or he’s just trying to limit the water works, nagging & sulking. Whatever the motivation, it seems to be working!
So there I stood in our albeit nice but very empty flat when I thought to myself, ok the moment’s over, now what? The curtain people were coming to install some sheers on the windows but no time was yet given. I couldn’t pretend to clean anything coz we didn’t have anything to clean with. We don’t have any furniture yet so I couldn’t even comfortably park myself in front of the telly. The only thing I could do was sit on the kitchen counter, have some breakfast cereal then roll back into bed. By then it was only 7am – this is gonna be a looong day!
Thankfully, the curtain guys turned up about 9am (of course just as I was going to step into the shower). 2 friendly Indian workers who thought it was rather funny that I could only park my ass on the kitchen counter while they went about with their installation. Of course, when they heard I was from Malaysia, they proceeded to tell me everything about Malaysia which I found rather funny! Mainly because some things got lost in translation.
Finally it’s lunch time and I’m starvations. I suddenly realize that Poss left money to pay the installers but forgot to leave me cash to buy lunch. Tsk Tsk Tsk – think I might need to remind him how this Tai Tai thing works! While I could use my credit card, how much could lunch cost? Seemed silly to charge such a small amount. Well it turns out that buying a small pasta salad + chicken salad from the little boutique mini market downstairs does warrant using a credit card when you can only scrounge up a little cash! I’m missing my roti canai right about now.
4pm and Poss is home! One great thing about his job is that he works 7 to 3pm – well great for me coz it means there’s still a lot of daylight left to do things together. Not so great for him coz he has to get up at the crack of dawn and basically turns into a pumpkin by 10pm – which then ends up not being so great for me. Anyway, we’re off to shop for some much needed furniture. I hope it’s not as expensive as my lunch!
